In what may actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise, it appears that director Wolfgang Petersen has left the reigns of the upcoming Ender's Game film adaptation. Word has been fairly mum on this film's progress for many years, although we did learn that Ender author Orson Scott Card will be handling the screenplay.
While I had faith that Card would faithfully adapt his story to the screen, Petersen just never seemed like a good fit for the material. His most recent films, including Troy, Poseidon, and The Perfect Storm, were all guilty of spectacle over substance, and I was worried that Petersen would bring that sort of lazy filmmaking to what should be the start of an epic sci-fi series.
I'm hoping we see a better director step up to this film sometime soon, and that Card's screenplay is more reminiscent of his earlier works than his recent stuff.
