The first Hellboy was a great film, but I could easily see why many didn't fall in love with it. Despite the overall great character work, there were only a few action set pieces, and the film always felt as if it was restrained from being as great as it could have been. I haven't seen the directors cut, which I hear may fix some of those issues, but nonetheless most filmgoers judged the film without the benefit of that cut.
Luckily, Guillermo del Toro was able to revisit the Hellboy franchise after the success of Pan's Labyrinth, and now we have the glorious Hellboy 2 trailer before us. This time around Hellboy and his crew must defend humanity against the mythical world -- lots of 'splosions and ass-kicking ensues.
The supporting cast from the first film returns, and they're joined by another del Toro collaborator, Luke Goss, who played the big-bad in Blade 2. He's in heavy makeup and pissed off once again.
Seriously, is there anything this trailer doesn't do right? That's exactly what it needs to overcome the indifference many had towards the original. It hits theaters on July 11.
