Fellow fans of the Bourne series, I believe this is a time for rejoicing: Variety revealed on Friday that director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon are on for another Bourne film. While the article doesn't go into much detail, the fact that both Damon and Greengrass are signed up means that they've either got a great idea for continuing the story of Jason Bourne with series screenwriter Tony Gilroy, or they're being paid enormous amounts of money to come up with an idea soon. Damon was initially insistent that the Bourne series remain a trilogy, but there were reports of him reversing that position towards the end of last year.
Personally, I thought Ultimatum wrapped up the series perfectly, so I'm approaching any sequel prospects with immediate suspicion. After all, where can Jason Bourne go from here? And when has a fourth film ever been any good? On the other hand, I have enough faith in Greengrass and Gilroy that I don't think they'll easily trash one of the most pefect film trilogies ever.
I also hope that this film is the end of the Bourne series proper. Jason Bourne is not James Bond, and the last thing we want is for the Bourne series to end up as tired as Bond pre-Casino Royale.
