Looks like things are finally getting in motion for the Spielberg/Peter Jackson Tintin trilogy. In a recent interview, everybody's favorite Gollum, Andy Serkis, confirmed that Spielberg would be directing the first film, with Jackson doing the second. The third film is currently without a director, which has led to all sorts of internet speculation. (My hopes are on Guillermo del Toro, let's just hope George Lucas stays away.)
For those not in the know, Tintin is a phenomenally popular French comic about the adventures of the titular reporter and his dog Snowy. It's the sort of material that's ripe for film adaptation by these iconic directors, and they're avoiding the pitfall of translating it to live action by using the motion-capture CG technology most recently seen in Beowulf. The series has been criticized for racist and colonialist attitudes as well, so I also hope they're able to make the character somewhat more progressive.
Serkis also seems to be cast as Captain Haddock, although the source on that is shaky. Shooting begins on Spielberg's Tintin in September.
