As wholly unnecessary a remake as this film may be (aren't most?), I can't help but feel at least a little excitement after watching this new trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still. The music and cinematography are both excellent, and really go a long way in developing a haunting, ominous atmosphere. My fingers are crossed that they'll be put to good use in aiding the storyline, although I can't say the trailer offers much hope on that front. But this being only the teaser trailer, we still have a few months to go before being able to make a judgment call like that.
[UPDATE: 20th Century Fox has gone all-out in getting the trailer taken down off YouTube.]
The trailer is still available in Quicktime at FilmWeb, in both regular and HD sizes.
The fact that Jenifer Connelly is in this gives me infinitely more faith in it being a solid production. Not that I'm implying all her films are gems, mind you, but she at least has enough class in choosing which projects she wants to do that she'd avoid hopping on board some half-assed Hollywood hack job.
And I know people give Keanu Reeves a hard time, but wow, how perfect is this casting? He's playing an alien taking the form of an emotionless human. The part doesn't even require him to attempt acting.
