Why are ghosts such assholes? They always seem to have a stick up their ass about something. "Ohhh, I was killed by some person in this house like 30 years ago and now for absolutely no reason I'm going to creep around corners and open windows and rustle the drapes just so I can eventually either kill you or take over your body even though you seem like a pretty cool individual who really has no reason to deserve any of this. Why? 'Cause I'm a fucking ghost! Time for me to make some creepy sound effects!"
Furthermore, why are there so many movies featuring ghosts haunting people? And why do they all suck?
Let me start a running tally of all the lousy ghost-oriented horror movies I can think of from the past few years: An American Haunting, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Mirrors, Shutter, The Eye, One Missed Call, Dead Silence, The Messengers, The Amityville Horror and The Return. Now let me list off the good ones: The Orphanage and 1408. That's a 5:1 ratio of good to bad "ghost story" horror films. And technically, despite featuring many of the same characteristics, 1408 isn't even really a "ghost story." So it's actually a 10:1 ratio.
Keeping that in mind, can you guess which category David S. Goyer's The Unborn and The Haunting of Molly Hartley are going to fall into come time for their release? How about The Haunting in Connecticut, the trailer for which can be found below?

I actually kind of want this to end up being one of the good ones, even though I know better than to expect it. I really like some of the visuals in it, and the film stars Virginia Madsen, the kid who played Beaver in Veronica Mars and that really hot girl from Sex Drive. Of course, take away those things and you have a retread of exactly the same storyline we've been exposed to countless times before. They even spoil a big part of what I'm assuming is the ending, with the son seemingly becoming possessed and trying to take an axe to his girlfriend. Speaking of which, didn't something very similar to that happen in The Amityville Horror? Yikes, I'm surprised I'm even able to tell these films apart anymore.
